Wellness Counseling, PLLC
Frequently Asked Questions
I know starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Here are answers to the most common things people ask about working with me and how telehealth counseling in North Carolina works. If you don’t see your question here just reach out—I’m happy to talk through it during your free consultation.
FAQ
How do I schedule my first appointment?
Email me at info@wellnesscnc.com or call 336-486-7306 to schedule your appointment. During that call we’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy and whether we’re a good fit. If we decide to move forward I’ll get you scheduled for your first full session.
All appointments are scheduled via email after that initial consultation.
Do you accept my insurance?
I’m in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (except Blue Value and Blue Local plans), Cigna, and Aetna.
If your insurance isn’t listed you can still work with me using out-of-network benefits or self-pay options. Many plans offer out-of-network reimbursement and I’ll provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company.
See the full breakdown on my Insurance & Fees page.
What does a telehealth session look like?
We meet through a secure HIPAA-compliant video platform—think Zoom but specifically designed for healthcare. You’ll get a link from me before each session and you just click it to join. No special software to download.
You can join from anywhere in North Carolina that feels comfortable and private—your home, your car, your office, wherever works for you. All you need is a device with a camera and microphone and a stable internet connection.
How long are sessions?
Individual therapy sessions are 53 minutes. Your initial assessment is 60 minutes so we have more time to talk through what’s going on and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy.
How often will we meet?
Most clients meet weekly, especially at the beginning. Once things stabilize we can move to every other week if that makes sense for you. We’ll figure out what works best based on what you’re dealing with and what your schedule allows.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Just let me know at least 24 hours before your appointment and we can reschedule with no charge.
If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice or don’t show up there’s a $105 missed appointment fee. I know emergencies happen so if something genuinely unexpected comes up we can talk about it.

Is what we talk about confidential?
Yes. Everything we discuss is confidential and protected by HIPAA privacy laws. I can’t share anything about our sessions without your written permission.
The only exceptions are if you tell me you’re planning to hurt yourself or someone else, or if there’s suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult. In those situations I’m required by law to report it. But outside of those specific circumstances everything stays between us.
What happens if telehealth isn't working for me?
If you’re having technical issues we can troubleshoot together or switch to a phone session for that day.
If telehealth just isn’t the right fit for you in general I’m happy to refer you to an in-person therapist in your area. What matters most is that you get the support you need in whatever format actually works for you.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. I’m a licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC) which means I provide therapy and counseling. I don’t prescribe medication.
If medication might be helpful as part of your treatment I can refer you to a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner who can evaluate you for that. Some of my clients work with both a therapist and a prescriber and that’s completely fine.
Who is telehealth NOT a good fit for?
Telehealth counseling isn’t recommended if you:
• Have just been hospitalized or are currently in crisis
• Are experiencing hallucinations, delusions, or other psychotic symptoms
• Are actively planning to hurt yourself or someone else
• Are court-ordered to attend therapy
If any of these apply to you I can help connect you with more appropriate resources including crisis services or in-person intensive treatment.
